Manipal is the part of Karnataka state. It is established in the rocky plateau of the Malabar Coast of South west in India.
Manipal was a sleepy coastal town that was not widely known or noticed before 1950. It was once a part of the Shivalli village panchayat. However, all that changed when the town was selected by Dr. Tonse Madhava Anantha Pai as the location to set up an institution for imparting medical education.
Fair and festivals
Pongal– one of the most awaited events in Manipal. Pongal is celebrated with great passion and vigour. Main food of this festival is sweet dish of rice which is first served to God Surya. It is celebrated in month of January.
Maker Sankranti– Maker Sankranti is a beautiful festival of the city. it is a celebration of the occasion of the ‘ascent’ of the sun to the north.
Ugadi– ugadi is famous festival in Andhra Pradesh. It is the New Year’s day and known by the name of Gudi Padwa and Ugadi in A.P. and Karnataka.
Hasta Shilpa- this village is a culturally preserved and restored village that exhibits tradition, culture, art and traditional buildings. It is managed by the Hasta Shilpa trust.
End Point- this place situated at the top of hill from where we can overlook the valley below and presents an amazing view of the surroundings. Visitors can see the captivating stretch of Arabian Sea towards the west and Western Ghats towards the east.
Smrithi Bhavan – Smrithi Bhavan is located in Manipal city and is an attractive place which is devoted to Late Dr. T.M.A. Pai who was the architect of Manipal. This Bhavan is one of the popular for tourists.
Best time to Visit
Winter season is the best season to visit there because on that season weather is pleasant and it makes sightseeing a wonderful experience. Best month October to March.

By Air- Bajpe Airport in Mangalore, is nearest airport to reach Manipal. It is international airport which connected to other cities of India and other country.
By Rail- the major nearby rail-head to Manipal is Mangalore Railway station; direct trains till Mangalore are available from cities like Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai etc.
By Road– Major cities in Karnataka, Kerala, and Goa are connected with Manipal by a well laid road and good bus service.
