Here are ten simple habits that have the power to transform your life.
Prepare for the Hours Ahead
Each morning you must prepare, plan and meditate on how you wish to act that day. Don’t wing it. Don’t be reactionary. Have a plan. Rise early in the morning and do your journaling— this will prepare you for what you are likely to face in the hours ahead. The morning is the perfect time to journal and to use the pages in that journal to set yourself up for a fruitful day. Remember: If you do the hard planning in the morning, nothing can happen during the day contrary to your expectation or too tough for you to handle.
Exercise is a must
Whether it is a jog in the nearby park, a walk or simple stretching- mornings are the best time to exercise. Not only is it beneficial to your body, but it also clears the mind and helps you work better. The morning sunshine gives you the much needed Vitamin D. Just go out and breathe in the fresh air. Experience nature. Experience the quiet of the world around you. Take a break. If you’re too busy, multitask: Take a walking meeting. Do your phone call on the move around the parking lot. Get out of doors and move.
Get an early start on your work
Mornings are also the best time to get started on your work. It is the most peaceful time of the day, sans any form of disturbances. You can get started on your agendas for the day and you will have a super productive day overall.
Do a kind deed
Yes, kindness is a habit. And it can be developed. “Wherever there is a human being, we have an opportunity for kindness.” How do you develop this habit? Number one, make it a goal to do something kind for someone each day. Whether it is your family or your mailman, there is an opportunity for kindness everywhere. Second, every time you interact with someone, try to be friendly and compassionate. Third, try to go beyond small kindnesses to larger acts of compassion, volunteering to help those in need and taking the initiative to relieve suffering.
People always make an excuse that they cannot find enough time to read throughout the day. Well, muster up the courage to wake up earlier and read. Even if it’s a few pages every day, you will gradually develop the habit of reading till it becomes a part of your routine.
Take out some me time.
You must find some quiet every day and just focus on yourself during that time. Disconnect and unplug, even for a few minutes. Build some of this time into your daily practice. You’ll be better for it. And use this time to do anything that you like, anything that makes your heart sing.
Spend less time on social media, and more in real interactions.
Modern life has taken away the simple pleasures such as sitting down with friends at the end of the day to laugh and eat together. We pull out our cell phones the very minute we have some idle time. Stop doing it. Take time out to actually meet people once in a while. Its one habit you will be thankful for when you’re older.
Eat more fruits. And vegetables too
And drink more water! Also, have a hearty breakfast, a big lunch, and a light dinner. Pay more attention to your eating habits and take your food seriously. Eat three square meals a day, and don’t replace them with aimless snacking on things that you imagine to be healthy but are really just empty, sad calories.
Learn something new each day.
Make it a point to gain some knowledge every day. There is no dearth of things to learn and you have all the time in the world. So add value to your personality. Learn a new dance move or to say hello in a different language.
Lastly, keep in touch with your parents and siblings.
Tell them each day without fail that you love them and cherish them. If you live with them, pull them into an embrace and let them know how special they are.
