Willington Island

India’s first man-made Island is Willington Island situated in the city Kochi of Kerala state. It is very beautiful island in the state and a major artificial port in India which serves as a link between the other seaports. The Navy Headquarters are located in the Willington Island.

It is man-made situated in Kochi city of the southern state of India, Kerala.

History

Willington Island is a wonderful island named after Viceroy Lord Willington. It is an artificial port built during British era. The Royal Air Force constructed a large aerodrome in Willington Island.

This Island is very famous in itself. This beautiful island is surrounded by beautiful backwaters of Kerala. One who wants to take a feel of serene atmosphere and natural beauty may visit here and enjoy holiday with pleasure.

This island is a heart of shipyard area of Cochin where luxury hotels are situated; some also provide Arabian Sea views as well.

Best time to Visit

December to May is the best time to visit here. Winter season is perfect time to spend and visit Willington Island.

How to Reach

By Air- Cochin airport is nearest airport from the island.

By Rail- Ernakulum railway station is the nearest railhead.

By Road- there is no regular transport available.  Buses available From Ernakulum to Willington Island, which is 65 kms away from the island.
