Tourism in Kumaon

Because of part of Uttarakhand, Kumaon is also become a beautiful place and come in the best visiting place of India. Kumaon is also a hilly town and is a delightful experience for travellers. Kumaon is a place soaked in the culture of the hill and the natural bounty is the icing on top.

Location

Kumaon hill station situated in northern state Uttarakhand of India. In the east Kumaon attach with Nepal by River Kali.  The Kailash-Mansarovar region of western Tibet forms its backdrop in the north. The boundary make by the Chamoli and Pauri district of Garhwal region in the west. There are major right bank tributaries, the Goriganga, the Ramganga and the Dhauliganga.

History

The Katyuri Kings ruled from the 7th to 11th century, who ruled over large area of Kumaon, Garhwal, and western Nepal. The town of Baijnath near Almora was the capital of this dynasty and a center of the arts. Temple building flourished under the Katyuris and the main architectural innovation introduced by them was the replacement of bricks with hewn stone.After an interregnum of a couple of centuries, the Chands of Pithoragarh become the dominant dynasty. The magnificent temple complex at Jageshwar, with its cluster of hundred and sixty-four temples, was built by the Chand rulers over a space of two centuries.

Fairs and Festivals

There are held number of Mela (Fairs) and events which is attract to tourists in every year. Most of the tourists come here to take part in the Fair and to get good experience.Uttarayani Mela is held at number of place including Bageshwar, Rameshwar, Ranibagh, etc. On Uttarayani day.Situated in the wide valley of Ram Ganga, Dwarahat is 38 km from Ranikhet and has cluster of old temples. A huge fair is organised here every year on Baisakhi day.Kasar Devi is the venue for fairs held twice a year during the summer and winter months. Nanda Devi meals are held at the many place of Uttarakhand including Almora, Nainital, Mansyari and Ranikhet.

Tourist Attractions

Nanda Devi Temple- in Kumaon, Nanda Devi temple is very famous temple. There is a huge culture of deity worship, and the number of those deities can be dizzying.

Naini Lake- The shape of Lake is drawn naturally in Mango shape. It is also said that this lake’s water is very pure and clean, fed by the Balia Nala and change colours during different seasons.

Jim Corbett National Park- The house of more than 580 birds and different kinds of animals, Jim Corbett National Park is very famous in all over the world. The different animals attract to tourists towards the Park.

Narayan Ashram- The place gives peace and silence to those who explore these in the outside from the home. The blooms around the Ashram are in full strength, while the Ashram itself houses a library and a meditation room as well.

Place around Kumaon

There are number of Hilly area around the Kumaon including Nainital, which is very famous and attractive place for tourism, Ranikhet, Pithoragh, Ramgarh, Almora etc. These all places are show natural beauty on the earth.

Best time to Visit

All season of this place is pleasant and temperature not goes high. In the winter temperature of the town fall below zero and in summer go up to 30 to 35 degree C only.

How to Reach

By Air- Pantnager in Nainital is nearest Airport to Kumaon. In the summer here operate regular flights.

By Rail- Kathgodam is nearest Railway station, situated at a distance of 55 km from Kumaon. Kumaon doesn’t have own railway station.

By Road- Kumaon by road is about 267 kms from Delhi. Buses, taxis and cab facility also available by booking and on the spot as well.
